His Majesty King Abdullah on Monday said that regional peace-making is in a critical phase that requires intensive international coordination to realise a two-state solution to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.

King Abdullah was speaking during a meeting with a delegation from J Street, an American pro-peace lobby that also includes members of the US Congress. The King told the delegation that the two-state solution - the establishment of an independent Palestinian state living side-by-side with Israel in peace and security - is the only way to bring about comprehensive peace in the region.

King Abdullah warned that further delaying serious and effective peace negotiations within a specified time frame and in accordance with international resolutions, including the Arab Peace Initiative will jeopardise the opportunities for peace and likely push the region into new cycles of violence.

During the meeting, the King also noted US President Barack Obama's commitment to achieving peace in the region and emphasised the centrality of the US role in peace efforts.

Monday's meeting was also attended by the Chief of the Royal Court Nasser Lozi and His Majesty's Advisor Ayman Safadi.

J Street is an American-Jewish organisation that supports the two-state solution and opposes Israeli settlement polices in Palestinian lands. The organisation, which has on several occasion also expressed concern over the policies of the current Israeli government, supports the Palestinians' right to an independent and sovereign state that lives side-by-side in peace and security with Israel and advocates a negotiated, two-state settlement along the 1967 borders. It also calls for comprehensive regional peace that builds on the Arab Peace Initiative.
