His Majesty King Abdullah on Sunday stressed the need for immediate international action to resume peace negotiations between the Palestinians and Israelis.

During a meeting with a British parliamentary delegation headed by Labour MP John Austin, the King called for an end to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict based on a two-state solution.

The King said regional peace and stability cannot be achieved unless an independent Palestinian state is established on Palestinian soil, in accordance with international resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative.

The King highlighted Britain's important role in achieving the two-state solution and pointed to the efforts of the European Union in pushing the peace process forward.

He added that the US administration's early engagement is central to resuming the negotiations.

King Abdullah also discussed bilateral relations and means to boost bilateral cooperation during yesterday's meeting.

The British delegates are members of the All-Party Parliamentary Group-Jordan, which seeks to promote interest in and knowledge of the Kingdom and to establish contacts between parliamentarians of both countries.
