His Majesty King Abdullah on Monday meet with a delegation from the European Union’s Political and Security Committee, chaired by Walter Stevens.

During the meeting, held at Al Husseiniya Palace, King Abdullah stressed the Kingdom’s keenness to boost coordination and cooperation with the EU countries, voicing the Kingdom’s appreciation for the support offered by the EU institutions to address the challenges facing Jordan as a result of regional crises, mainly the Syrian conflict.

The discussion covered the European institutions’ efforts to enhance the economic capabilities of Jordan, especially in regard to simplified rules of origin, a request made by Jordan to facilitate the entry of locally made products to Europe and attract investments in designated development and industrial zones.

Talks also covered the EU’s vital role in finding solutions to regional conflicts as part of its efforts to preserve the security and stability of the region.

The King stressed the importance of finding a comprehensive and just solution to the Palestinian issue, noting that failure to implement the two-state solution only feeds violence and extremism.

For their part, the delegates commended and vowed support for Jordan’s efforts to end regional crises and achieve stability in the Middle East.

The meeting was attended by Royal Hashemite Court Chief Fayez Tarawneh, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Nasser Judeh and Planning and International Cooperation Minister Imad Fakhoury.

The EU’s Political and Security Committee’s headquarters is located in Brussels and its tasks include observing the situation in the region and the world in order to offer recommendations and help build strategies.
