His Majesty King Abdullah on Tuesday urged workers to focus on entrepreneurship in their professional lives to help build and develop Jordan and called on them to build on previous accomplishments and pursue excellence.

“Fellow workers, today, while you perform your work in the best manner as usual… our dear country still awaits more efforts, achievements and increased productivity,” King Abdullah said in this year’s Labour Day letter.

His Majesty said the Kingdom enjoys a generation of creative and pioneering workers who, if supported, can turn their ideas into exemplary projects and businesses.

In the letter, His Majesty stressed that the public and private sectors should collaborate and complement each other in providing job opportunities that meet the requirements of the labour market, stressing his commitment to support workers and their causes.

The King said Jordanian workers have built a reputation for the Kingdom as a modern country where a qualified labour force is a “main ingredient of the Jordanian culture of excellence” and “one of the foremost characteristics of Jordanian identity.”

He called for encouraging business initiatives and raising society’s awareness of the values and ethics of work.

The King praised Jordanian workers’ dedication and spirit of giving, through which they have “beaten all the odds.”

King Abdullah emphasised the importance of fostering the principle of equal opportunities and honing workers’ skills to increase their competitiveness. “It is our duty… to give our full attention to your issues and needs,” he told workers.

Highlighting the need to raise awareness and promote a sound culture of work, especially among the youth, His Majesty said, “our love for our homeland… is only measured by how much we work for it” and contribute to its development.

Voicing his confidence in Jordanian workers, he reiterated his call for pioneering efforts and distinguished work.
