His Majesty King Abdullah II expressed on Monday his concern over the spread of the cycle of violence in the Palestinian Lands over the past few days.

The King affirmed, during talks with the EU Foreign Policy Chief Javier Solana, that there is no alternative to the peace process to end the violence and tension that currently prevail in the Palestinian lands.

King Abdullah stressed the necessity for the International Community, especially the US to move towards implementing the Roadmap peace plan which aims to establish permanent and Just peace in the region, and to set up a Palestinian state that lives in peace side by side with Israel.

During the talks, held at the Hashemite Royal Court, and attended by Minister of the Royal Court and the State Minister for Foreign Affairs, Solana briefed the King on the outcomes of his talks with Israeli officials on Sunday. He affirmed the EU will go ahead with its contacts with Palestinians and Israelis to support and push the peace process forward.

Discussions also focused on the situation in Iraq and the role that could be played by the EU and the International community to provide assistance to restore peace and security in Iraq.
