Turkey and Jordan agreed on Monday to maintain constant coordination in light of the developments taking place in the Middle East. During a meeting on the sidelines of a nuclear security summit in Seoul on Tuesday, His Majesty King Abdullah and Turkish Premier Recep Tayyip Erdogan stressed the need to support UN and Arab League envoy Kofi Annan's mission to find a political solution to the Syrian crisis and to continue cooperation on this issue.

King Abdullah and Erdogan voiced their commitment to help preserve Syria's unity and stability as neighbouring countries, calling for an end to the ongoing violence and bloodshed.

The two leaders also discussed bilateral cooperation and issues of mutual concern. Discussions at the meeting, attended by His Royal Highness Crown Prince Hussein, also covered the "strong" and "historical" ties between the two countries and means to boost them at all levels.

On the Middle East peace process, King Abdullah underlined Jordan's firm stance to maintain the centrality of the Palestinian issue in the region. He stressed the need to protect the rights of the Palestinian people to establish their own viable and independent state on their national soil. He said the Kingdom will continue its endeavours to push the peace process forward and help Palestinians and Israelis return to the negotiating table.
