King encourages British private sector to invest in Jordan

His Majesty King Abdullah met on Monday with Lord Mayor of London David Lewis who is currently on a visit to the Kingdom heading a delegation of British businesspeople.

At the meeting, the King stressed the importance of continuing to develop Jordanian-British economic ties through encouraging the British private sector to invest in the Kingdom and increasing bilateral trade volume.

King Abdullah said the visit by the mayor to Amman is an opportunity to become acquainted with the investment opportunities in the Kingdom in the various sectors, especially financial services, city planning and tourism.

The King also underlined the need for activating the partnership between the private sectors in both countries and carrying out joint investment projects in vital fields.

His Majesty also emphasized the importance of enhancing cooperation between the Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) and London Municipality.

Lewis, for his part, commended the achievements of the Jordanian economy and the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority.

He told a business luncheon hosted by the Jordan Securities Commission that Jordan should continue the path of reform.

He said: “Jordan is on the right track in term of economic programmes and market liberalization, particularly with large scale and important investment projects in Amman and Aqaba.”
