His Majesty King Abdullah on Tuesday held talks with interim Egyptian President Adli Mansour, who arrived in Amman on a short official visit.

Talks focused on prospects for further cooperation, particularly in the economy, in addition to a number of regional and international issues.

King Abdullah and Mansour underlined the deep ties between the Kingdom and Egypt and their mutual commitment to develop them at all levels.

His Majesty said Jordan perceives Egypt as a key country at the Arab and regional levels, stressing the Kingdom’s support for the future choices of the Egyptian people to preserve their country’s national unity, entrench its security and stability and enable it to reclaim its pioneering role.

The two leaders discussed ways to boost economic and political cooperation, calling for convening meetings of the Joint Jordanian-Egyptian Higher Committee as soon as possible to intensify cooperation at all levels, particularly in energy.

The King congratulated the Egyptian leader and people on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the 1973 October war.

Talks also focused on efforts to bring about peace between the Palestinians and Israelis, leading to the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on Palestinian national soil, according to the two-state solution and the Arab Peace Initiative.

The two leaders warned against Israel’s unilateral measures, settlement policies and frequent attacks on Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem, stressing that these actions hamper the peace process.

They reiterated their commitment to continuing coordination to reach Arab consensus over regional issues, especially the Middle East peace process.

Discussions also covered the latest developments in Syria. In this context, His Majesty underlined Jordan’s support for a political solution to the crisis that would end the bloodshed and maintain the cohesion of Syria and its people, citing the Kingdom’s efforts to assist Syrian refugees.

For his part, Mansour commended the King’s support for Egypt and his role in enhancing joint Arab action.

His Majesty held a dinner banquet in honour of the Egyptian leader and the accompanying delegation.

Jordanian Ambassador to Egypt Bisher Khasawneh underlined the importance of the Egyptian president’s visit to Jordan and its contribution to enhancing the strategic relationship between the two countries.

Mansour left Jordan late in the day and was seen off by Prime Minister Abdullah Ensour and a number of senior officials and officers.
