His Majesty King Abdullah II said in
Davos that the Jordanian education initiative was launched with a
program aimed to bridge the digital gap between Jordan and the world
on one side and between the poor and the rich in Jordan on the other,
in a way that enhances equal opportunities for all Jordanians in urban
,rural areas and the Badia.


The initiative, which will be carried out in the course of
a five-year plan with a total cost of $500,000, includes three tracks:
developing 100 of pioneering schools, sustaining lifelong education,
and developing information and telecommunication technology in Jordan.



The initiative, which was fully designed by Jordanians, is
a model of efficient development partnership, Jordan strives to achieve
between the private and public sector on the one side and with the
international companies on the other where benefit from international
companies shouldn't be limited to funding but also acquiring the know
how technology exceed to build the Jordanian cadres' abilities and
develop the school syllabus by Jordanian educationists, teachers and
supervisors.



Education Minister Khaled Touqan, whose ministry is implementing
this initiative in cooperation with the Ministry of Telecommunication
and Information Technology and the Ministry of Planning and International
Cooperation, said Jordan is an effective partner in developing the
initiative and incorporating it with the broader educational reform
project.



The initiative receives full support from the IT sector in
Jordan which adopted it at the Dead Sea meeting last year. The U.S.
Sessco Systems also offers strong support to the initiative and it
has been working closely with the Education Ministry and the Jordanian
Rubicon company to develop the maths curriculum.
