His Majesty King Abdullah donated on Tuesday JD2 million for the expansion of the Tafileh Technical University.

During a visit to the Tafileh Governorate, which has a population of approximately 75,000, King Abdullah was briefed by community leaders on the area's needs.

At the meeting, the King announced the donation of JD2 million to be used for the establishment of several buildings and facilities at the university as most of its budget has been allocated for the ongoing construction work.

The donation will help accelerate the expansion of the university, which currently has 1,600 students. An additional 1,500 students will matriculate in September at the start of the new academic year, officials from the university said.

Addressing Tafileh representatives, King Abdullah said: “We are aware of the challenges facing everyone in the governorate and we are ready to provide you with financial support for the projects you seek to implement to improve the quality of life.”

During the visit, the King also issued instructions for the creation of a youth centre, and for a healthcare centre in Al Hasa to be supplied with medical equipment and cadres.

Underlining the need to implement the projects as soon as possible, the King said: “I will visit you in few months to follow up on the implementation.”

Also today, King Abdullah inaugurated the shrine of Al Harith Ben Omair Al Azdi, a companion of the Prophet Mohammad.
