His Majesty King Abdullah on Tuesday discussed with Norwegian Foreign Minister Borge Brende means to enhance bilateral relations and the latest regional developments.

During the meeting, King  Abdullah tackled efforts to achieve peace between the Palestinians and the Israelis, reiterating Jordan’s stance on the conflict based on the two-state solution and the Arab Peace Initiative that can ultimately lead to the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on the 1967 lines with East Jerusalem as its capital.

On the developments in Syria, the King renewed Jordan’s unaltered position, which rests on a comprehensive political solution to the Syrian crisis that safeguards its territorial integrity and ends the suffering of its people.

In this context, His Majesty pointed to the burdens on the limited-resource Kingdom as a result of hosting around 600,000 Syrian refugees, calling on the international community to shoulder its responsibilities to enable Jordan perform its humanitarian and relief assistance to the Syrian refugees.

Brende had a first-hand look at the situation of Syrian refugees during a visit to the Zaatari camp in the northeastern desert.

For his part, Brende, who is on a tour of the Middle East, stressed the importance of enhancing Jordanian-Norwegian cooperation in all fields to serve the people and interests of the two countries, expressing appreciation for Jordan’s humanitarian efforts and for the King’s pivotal role in achieving security and stability in the region.
