His Majesty King Abdullah on Sunday met with a delegation from German political foundation Konrad Adenauer Stiftung and discussed cooperation and the latest developments in the Middle East.

King Abdullah voiced Jordan's commitment to improving ties with European countries, especially Germany, commending its support for the Kingdom at various economic and development levels.

His Majesty acquainted the delegates with the Kingdom's comprehensive reform process, which seeks to entrench democracy and advance development and modernisation.

He cited the integrity of the parliamentary elections and the formation of a government on the basis of consultations with the Lower House as examples of Jordan's reform efforts.

On the situation in Syria, the King highlighted the "huge" burden the Kingdom is shouldering due to the growing number of Syrian refugees, which place pressure on the country's already scarce resources.

His Majesty called on the international community to shoulder its responsibilities to enable Jordan to continue playing its humanitarian role towards the refugees.

Discussions also covered Middle East peace efforts and the need to arrive at a two-state solution as the sole way to achieve peace in the region.

For his part, Hans-Gert Poettering, head of the delegation, commended the King's efforts to bring about security and stability in the region.

Members of the delegation expressed their keenness to continue meetings with the His Majesty and Jordanian officials to boost Jordanian-European ties and follow up on peace efforts.

Established in 1955, Konrad Adenauer Stiftung has 16 regional offices and is in charge of over 200 projects in more than 120 countries, according to its website.
