King directs gov't to reconsider Disi plan

Amman
10 July 2005

His Majesty King Abdullah II on Sunday instructed the government to reconsider a Cabinet decision issued last February that designated the Development and Investment Fund of the Jordanian Armed Forces to execute the Disi water conveyance project. The project is meant to carry potable water to Amman.

The issue was discussed during a meeting on ways to follow up on the main investment and development projects in the country.

King Abdullah urged officials to expedite the execution of the Disi project through a new mechanism, particularly after companies contracted by the Development and Investment Fund failed to provide the necessary funding for the project by the set deadline and to adhere to conditions specified by the Cabinet.

The King urged the government to reassign the project to the Ministry of Water and Irrigation so that tenders could be issued as soon as possible.
