On the occasion of Labor Day, His Majesty King Abdullah on Sunday addressed workers in the country, congratulating them and voicing appreciation for their efforts in enhancing Jordan's development and progress.

In a letter sent to President of the General Federation of Trade Unions Mazen Maaytah, the King stressed his keenness to provide suitable working conditions for all Jordanians, enhance their living standards and enable young people to achieve their aspirations and goals.

King Abdullah said training and qualification of workers are essential goals that should be realized in order for the development process to succeed.

"Within this context, we look forward to the success of the Labor Educational Institute in its mission, so that it can contribute to upgrading the competence and competitiveness of Jordanian workers, who should be more aware of their rights and obligations," the King said in the letter.

His Majesty also underlined the need to provide workers with social protection and guarantee their rights so they can achieve their goals, earn a decent livelihood and look forward to a secure future.

He also emphasized the importance of enhancing the partnership between the public and the private sectors to reduce unemployment and provide the workers with an opportunity to prove their capabilities to work, produce and excel.

Maaytah, meanwhile, sent a letter to the King on the occasion of Labor Day pledging "to go ahead with enhancing production and pushing forward the wheel of national economy."
