His Majesty King Abdullah on Thursday congratulated His Royal Highness Prince Ali on his election as FIFA vice president.

In a phone call with the Prince following the election that took place in Doha, King Abdullah said that the “success of Prince Ali is a success for each Jordanian man and woman”, voicing confidence in the wide experience of the Prince in football and his ability to take the game to a new level at the Arab, Asian and international levels.

In a statement, Prince Ali thanked King Abdullah and stressed that “the achievement would not have been made without the support His Majesty extended to Prince Ali since he announced his nomination for the post”. Prince Ali has been the president of the Jordan Football Association for a decade and holds the same role in the increasingly influential West Asian Football Federation. In his statement, he said that he would exert every effort to effect positive change in Arab and Asian football and act “as the best representative of Jordan and the Arabs in the international sports circles.”
