His Majesty King Abdullah on Monday congratulated Lower House Speaker Saad Hayel Srour and members of the permanent office on their election and wished them success in their mission.

During a telephone call with Srour, King Abdullah said the Lower House has an important role to ensure the success of democratic transformation by enhancing its legislative and monitoring role.

The King urged the Lower House to keep channels open with all popular and political forces to engage them in decision-making.

His Majesty added that developing the House’s rules of procedure and code of conduct will further boost parliamentary performance, institutionalise the work of parliamentary blocs, achieve public interest and pave the way for full-fledged parliamentary government system.

Srour said the Lower House is committed to implementing reform and work to enhance democracy and the reform march championed by the King.
