His Majesty King Abdullah, the Supreme Commander of the Jordan Armed Forces, on Wednesday commended a move by the Public Security Department (PSD) to establish an environmental police unit.
The new unit, which will help in the protection of environment by tracking violators, will coordinate its work with the ministries of environment, agriculture, and water and irrigation.
The King said he fully supports the new unit, wishing it success in its mission.
Brigadier General Mohammad Raqqad briefed the King and the accompanying officials on the environment police unit, its mission and the manner in which it will communicate with the concerned government agencies.
Minister of Environment Khalid Irani said the project was initiated in implementation of the King's directives calling for a pollution-free environment in the country.
Also on Wednesday, the King paid a visit to the Jordan Armed Forces Headquarters, where he met with senior officers and directors of the 33 military cooperatives.
Officers in charge of the cooperatives briefed the King on a strategic plan that envisions the expansion of the network, which works under the Military Ex-servicemen Corporation, to 63 cooperatives in all the country's provinces.
