His Majesty King Abdullah on Tuesday telephoned US President Barack Obama to congratulate him on his re-election.

King Abdullah reiterated the centrality of the Palestinian cause and stressed the need to increase efforts to resume Palestinian-Israeli negotiations to address all final status issues. Jordan will continue consultation and coordination with the US administration over the unprecedented challenges facing the Middle East, His Majesty said.

The King urged the US to play an active role in bringing the two sides back to the negotiating table to reach a solution that ensures the establishment of a Palestinian state on the 1976 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.

The two leaders also discussed bilateral relations, stressing their keenness to enhance them in their countries’ best interests.
