His Majesty King Abdullah on Wednesday described the suicide attack that killed top Syrian defence officials as a “tremendous blow” to the regime, but warned against jumping to conclusions.
In an interview with CNN’s Wolf Blitzer, host of “The Situation Room” show, King Abdullah said the attack certainly showed “cracks” in the regime, but added: “I don’t think we should jump to any conclusions…”
Commenting on the accelerating developments in the northern neighbour, the King said in the interview: “All of us in the international community have been reaching out to the Syrian regime to make a move on political transition. But on the ground, we haven’t seen much for it. So, unfortunately, there’s the status quo. And as a result, we’re seeing, as we’ve been seeing, continued violence.”
The King also answered questions on a host of other issues, including the Mideast peace process and political changes in the region.
