The King to Begin a Three-Day Visit to Japan

Amman
28 June 2002

His Majesty King Abdullah II on Saturday will begin a three-day working visit to Japan to hold talks with Japan's Emperor Akihito. It will be the King's second visit to Tokyo since ascending the Throne in 1999.

HM will also meet Japan's Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi, Minister of Foreign Affairs Yoriko Kawaguchi, and senior Japanese officials to discuss means to further bolster Jordan-Japan trade cooperation, the rescheduling of Japan's debts to Jordan estimated to amount to more than $1.5 billion, the exacerbating situation in the Middle East and diplomatic efforts exerted to re-launch the peace process.

Luring Japan's investments to Jordan will top the Monarch's extensive meetings with leaders of Japanese economic activities, private sector representatives and businessmen.
