His Majesty King Abdullah on Saturday stressed that Jordan is moving ahead with comprehensive reforms to achieve a better future for all Jordanians.

King Abdullah, heading part of a Cabinet session on Saturday, said the new elections and political parties laws as well as anticipated constitutional amendments will accelerate the political reform process and will contribute to a more active political life in the Kingdom, adding: “We are moving ahead on the right track and there is nothing we fear.”

In addition, the King urged ministers to focus on fieldwork and to communicate directly with citizens. He also urged ministers to be courageous and daring in decision-making, warning that “hesitation will negatively affect the economic and social situations which are the biggest challenges facing the country.”

In his remarks at the meeting, Prime Minister Marouf Bakhit pledged that his government will move ahead with reforms to make Jordan a “model in all fields”.

He reviewed achievements realised by his government, citing a new Public Gatherings Law and the government’s smooth handling of rallies, sits-in and demonstrations that have taken place throughout the Kingdom.

He also highlighted a draft law concerning the establishment of a teachers association and the outcomes of the National Dialogue Committee that has proposed changes to the elections and political parties draft laws, noting that a ministerial committee will convene today to discuss agreed-upon versions of the two laws.

Bakhit also pointed out that the government, as long as the Royal committee tasked with revisiting the Constitution completes its mandate, will send the draft laws to the Lower House. The premier also cited the recommendations of the economic dialogue committee, saying that his government has drafted an executive plan to implement the panel’s recommendations.

On plans to combat unemployment, Bakhit said the government has created a total of 13,800 job opportunities in the civil and military sectors and has laid out a national strategy for recruitment.

He added that the government has commenced a campaign to promote Jordan’s tourism sector worldwide, indicating that government officials have visited several countries, especially Gulf Arab states, to shed light on Jordan’s attractions.

The premier said Jordan, as a state of law and institutions, has set up concise and systematic plans to eradicate corruption. He explained that the government has worked to empower the Anti-Corruption Commission by amending its laws.
