His Majesty King Abdullah on Tuesday headed Jordan’s delegation at the third Africa Arab Summit, which kicked off in Kuwait under the theme “Partners in Development and Investment”.

During the two-day summit, held with the participation of a large number of Arab and African leaders and officials, Prime Minister Abdullah Ensour is representing King Abdullah, who returned home later in the day.

Discussions at the gathering are covering issues related to cooperation in the areas of agriculture, food security and trade between Arab and African countries, in addition to the challenges they face and means to overcome them to reach stability, security and prosperity.

On the sidelines of the summit, His Majesty met with the emir of Kuwait, Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmad Al Sabah, during a lunch banquet he held in honour of delegation presidents taking part in the event. They discussed bilateral ties and the latest developments in the region.

The two leaders “underlined their commitment to continue developing their mutual strategic relations to best serve the interests of the two countries and contribute to activating joint Arab action”.

The King expressed his appreciation to Kuwait for hosting the Arab-Africa Summit, voicing hope it would contribute to institutionalising the partnership between Arab and African states.

His Majesty also thanked Kuwait for supporting the Kingdom to continue its role in hosting Syrian refugees.

The King and Sheikh Sabah also discussed ongoing efforts to bring about peace between the Palestinians and Israelis according to the two-state solution, as well as the Syrian crisis and the need for stakeholders to work out a comprehensive political solution that ends the suffering of Syrians.

In addition, His Majesty met with a number of leaders and high-ranking officials and discussed prospects for further cooperation between Arab and African countries.

The King met with Yemeni President Abed Rabbuh Mansour Hadi, Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani and Bahraini King Hamad Bin Issa Al Khalifa.

Jordan’s official delegation to the summit consisted of Prime Minister Abdullah Ensour, Royal Court Chief Fayez Tarawneh, Minister of Foreign and Expatriates Affairs Nasser Judeh and His Majesty’s Office Director Imad Fakhoury.
