His Majesty King Abdullah attended a ceremony held by the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs on the occasion of al Israa Wal Miraj, Prophet Mohammad's nocturnal journey to heaven.

Minister of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs Mohammad Qudah made remarks in which he recalled the great meaning of Al Israa Wal Miraj.

At the ceremony, which was attended by a number of Royal family members, Qudah said the agreement between Jordan and Palestine that reaffirmed the status of His Majesty King Abdullah as the custodian of the holy sites in Jerusalem reflects the Hashemites' keenness to protect and preserve Al Aqsa Mosque and Jerusalem.

The agreement, he added, also reflects the strong ties between the Jordanian and Palestinian peoples.

His Majesty received cables of good wishes from local officials and leaders of Arab and Muslim countries as the Muslim world marks this religious occasion.
