His Majesty King Abdullah on Sunday attended a ceremony marking the birthday of Prophet Mohammad at the King Abdullah I Mosque.

At the event, attended by several Royal family members, senior officials and officers, several speakers commended His Majesty's efforts to achieve reform in the Kingdom.

Minister of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs Abdul Salam Abbadi highlighted the lessons to be learned from the prophet's life in addressing the issues of poverty, unemployment, corruption and other challenges.

"The anniversary of the prophet's birthday comes at a time when the developments of the so-called Arab Spring are affecting Arab countries in pursuit of reforms at all levels," the minister said. Stressing that Islam is comprehensive and addresses all aspects of life, Abbadi said it promotes the respect of rights and the achievement of justice and reform in society at all levels. Objectivity, honesty and respect for the views and opinions of others are key to reform, the minister added.
