His Majesty King Abdullah on Saturday started an official visit to Washington, during which he will meet US President Barack Obama to discuss the latest developments in the Middle East.
Discussions during the meeting are expected to address efforts to realise Middle East based on the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on the 1967 borders, in addition to bilateral ties and prospects for further cooperation.
King Abdullah is also scheduled to meet with several US media, intellectual and political figures at the Brookings Institute, where he will talk about the historic developments unfolding in the region and ways to arrive at peace based on the two-state formula.
Established in 1916, the Brookings Institute is a nonprofit public policy organisation based in Washington, DC. Its mission is to conduct high-quality, independent research and provide innovative and practical policy recommendations, according to the organisation’s website.
King Abdullah will also meet with senior officials from the US administration and the Congress as well as representatives of US Islamic, Arab and Jewish organisations.
