King and Schroeder Hold Talks

His Majesty King Abdullah II affirmed that we are serious in the reform process and look forward to creating Arab consensus on a self reform, that springs out from the inner, and takes into account a settlement for the Palestinian issue.



After his talks with German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder on Tuesday, King Abdullah said that we try to translate the Arab consensus concerning the reform process into a self-reform plan.



King Abdullah described his talks with Schroeder as positive ones. ''Our views were identical on the region's issues'', King Abdullah said.



His Majesty's talks with the German officials, which were attended by Minister of the Royal Court Samir Rifa'i, Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs/ Minister of Trade and Industry Muhammad Halaiqa, Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Basem Awadallah and Jordan's Ambassador to Berlin Saleh Irsheidat, focused on the importance of the German and the European Union's contribution to supporting the peace process in the Middle East.



''We support Germany, as a member in the European Union, to pursue supporting the peace process, noting to the important German role in supporting peace plans, especially in this phase'' King Abdullah said.



On the Iraqi file, King Abdullah noted that the Jordanian- German views were identical, pointing that the two countries wish to see independent and democratic Iraq, run by national Iraqi government. ''We look forward to greater UN role in Iraq and support every trends in this regard'', King Abdullah said.



King Abdullah expressed his appreciation over the German economic and developmental assistance to Jordan, pointing to the German support for the economic and social reforms in Jordan.



In response to a question on the Palestinian issue, King Abdullah said that what is needed now is providing every support and encouraging the Palestinians and Israelis to move towards negotiations and push the peace process forward.



For his part, the German Chancellor valued King Abdullah's efforts in the reform process. ''We have economic and developmental cooperation with Jordan and we support the Jordanian private sector,'' the German Chancellor said.



The German Chancellor noted that the Palestinian issues is the core of conflict in the region. On the Iraqi issue, Schroeder pointed to the importance of spreading security and establishing independent and democratic Iraq, pointing that the UN role is vital in charting the Iraqi future.
