King and President Assad to Inaugurate Construction of Al-Wahdah Dam Project

His Majesty King Abdullah II and Syrian President Bashar Al Assad on Monday give the go ahead for the construction of Al Wahdah Dam project on the Yarmuk River with a storage capacity of 110 million cubic meters.



Following the inauguration ceremony, the two leaders will head
for the Syrian capital, Damascus for talks on bilateral relations
and the situation in the region.


During the ceremony, held on the Jordanian bank of the river
in presence of senior Jordanian and Syrian officials, King Abdullah
and President Assad will unveil the plaque of the JD66 million project.


The project, funded by the Arab Fund for Economic Development
and the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development, is expected to completed by
the end of January in 2005.


Jordan will get 81 million cubic meters of water from the dam,
which is one of the vital and leading projects in the Arab world and
a symbol of the joint Arab action.
