Students in the southern district of Al Qweira will benefit from new facilities early next year following directives issued by His Majesty King Abdullah on Sunday.
After touring Al Khdeirat Basic School, King Abdullah issued instructions for the construction of a new school as the current one does not provide students with a suitable place to study.
In addition to overcrowding, the current facility is rented and does not have electricity, said the school's principal Munifeh Njadat.
The King issued instructions for providing the new school with the necessary education tools and adequate classrooms that include heating systems and fans.
Meanwhile, during a meeting today with representatives from Al Qweira District, where poverty stands at 36 per cent, the King said: I am aware of the problems you face, the challenges and the burden the government shoulders in addressing them.
After listening to residents' needs, King Abdullah also ordered the creation of three kindergartens in the area and maintenance projects for the district's 23 schools.
The King also issued directives for equipping two healthcare centres in the district with the necessary medical equipment and personnel to begin providing residents with health services.
In addition, a new hospital has been ordered in Al Qweira after complaints that the nearest hospital is 50 kilometres away.
The King also ordered the creation of a centre for people with special needs and the150 disabled residents who are not currently provided with services, as well as a youth centre, knowledge stations with computers, and roads to serve the farmers in the area.
