King Abdullah II Meets Daghestani President

His Majesty King Abdullah II on Thursday met with President of Daghestan Muhammad Muhammadov, within the King's pursuit to enhance Jordan's relations with the Islamic peoples of trans-Caucasus.

Muhammadov said that his country looks forward to Jordan as an Islamic country which is a model of tolerance and moderation.

Jordan has worked a lot for stability in the Middle East and advocating the Issues of Islam, particularly the Moslem peoples of trans-Caucasus, he added.

Muhammadov expressed pride on the historic relations that bind Jordan with Daghestan since the reign of His Late Majesty King Hussein.

King Abdullah and President Muhammadov stressed the necessity to enhance contacts between the two countries in the various fields and to exchange visits. His Majesty invited President Muhammadov to visit Jordan.

The two sides stressed the necessity to combat terrorism. King Abdullah and President Muhammadov agreed to continue coordination regarding the various issues of common concern.

In a press statement, Minister of Foreign Affairs Marwan Muasher said that the King's tour in Poland and the Russian Federation aims at increasing political coordination and further enhancing economic relations between Jordan and the two countries. He pointed out that Poland is the biggest country of the ten countries that recently joined the European Union. It enjoys great economic capabilities, he added. The royal visit has set for bilateral cooperation in a number of economic fields, he said.

Dr. Muasher said that His Majesty King Abdullah enjoys remarkable relations with President Vladimir Putin.

He pointed out that the King's talks with President Putin focused on the necessity to support the Iraqi government to prepare for the public elections that would lay the foundations for electing a permanent Iraqi government.
