King Abdullah II meets Chinese President

His Majesty King Abdullah II and Chinese President Hun Jin Tao on Friday discussed bilateral relations in political, economic and cultural fields, and means to further enhance them.



During their meeting today in the Great People's Hall, His Majesty discussed with President Jin Tao the political situation in the region and the international efforts exerted to solve the Arab Israeli conflict , as well as the positive Chinese stand supporting a just solution to the Palestinian issue.



The two leaders stressed that solving the Palestinian issue and ending tension in the Middle East region lies in implementing the international legitimacy resolutions , in the forefront 242 and 338. They reaffirmed the importance of international community support to establish a viable Palestinian state.



His Majesty highlighted the close relations that bind the two countries for long years. He pointed out that cementing relations has been positively reflected on economic cooperation which grew consistently during the past years.



The strong relations between our two countries help us to contribute to building world peace and to support peace efforts in the Middle East, His Majesty said.



King Abdullah expressed Jordan's looking forward to expand cultural and tourist relations, scientific scholarships exchange with China, increasing investment volume particularly in the field of information technology, and cementing cooperation between the two countries' private sectors.



His Majesty pointed out that Jordan intends to diversify the source of military equipment. We look forward to China as one of the advanced countries in this regard, he said.



Following the talks, Jordan and China signed a $ 7,2 million grant agreement and $ 24 million easy loan agreement. We thank you for supporting Jordan in the field of loans and aid, as they come in a time we are working hard to carry out economic reform program, His Majesty said.



Our political relations are remarkable. Consequently, we have to improve our economic relations which started to witness improvement during the past three years, His Majesty said.


He pointed out to the importance of focusing on parliamentary visits and increasing the private sector's contribution in the two countries as well as establishment of mutual partnerships.



King Abdullah pointed out that his visit, two years ago to Shanghai has encouraged Jordan to follow the course the city took regarding investment attraction.



His Majesty stressed Jordan's welcome to establish close cooperation with China to contribute to Iraq rebuilding.



Chinese President Jin Tao expressed his country's welcome to develop relations in all fields with Jordan. He pointed out that relations between the two countries grew significantly along the past seven years. One of our priorities is cementing reltions between our two countries, he said.



He expressed China's looking forward to expand economic and investment cooperation and coordination regarding development of infrastructure in Iraq.



President Jin Tao expressed China's appreciation on King Abdullah's role to achieve stability in the Middle East region. We are ready for coordination and cooperation with Jordan in order to work out a more stable and secure Middle East, he said.



He stressed that China is willing to work with Jordan and the international community to find a just solution to the Palestinian issue within the intentional legitimacy resolutions. He pointed out that going on in building the wall compliates the situation in Palestine.



Concerning the situation in Iraq, President Jin Tao affirmed China's welcome to power transfer to Iraqis. We look forward to achieve security and stability in this country as soon as possible, he said.



President Jin Tao expressed his country's readiness to work with Jordan, the Arab countries and international community for building a free and independent Iraq. He expressed regards on Jordan's readiness to provide all facilities to the Chinese private sector and firms for contribution to building Iraq.



Earlier today, His Majesty discussed with Chairman of Chinese State Council Wun Jai Bu bilateral relations and means to further enhance them in all fields.



During their meeting , His Majesty said that Jordan is keen to enhance relations with China , particularly in the economic field, enhancing trade exchange and attraction of more investment particularly in the field of qualified industrial zones.



China represents a special model in the Middle East due to its balanced stands towards the Palestinian issue and the situation in Iraq, he said.



His Majesty said that past years witnessed essential development in the field of Chinese investment. We appreciate such development and welcome more cooperation between our two countries to contribute in building the future of Iraq, he affirmed.



His Majesty expressed Jordan's readiness to cement cooperation between the two countries' private sectors and to provide all facilities for Chinese firms through the investment window established to support foreign investors' activities.



On his part, Chairman of Chinese State Council Wun Jai Bu said that during the past five years, Chinese investment in Jordan grew about 46 per cent , the matter which reflects the economic relations development between the two countries. What we need now is to have
facilities for the Chainese firms to participate in rebuilding Iraq, he said.



BU urged for signing an agreement to organize the affairs of Chinese workers in Jordan who are concentrated in the qualified industrial zones.



Minister of Planning and international Cooperation Basem Awadallah said that signature of the grant and loan agreements between the two countries come as a result of His Majesty king Abdullah II efforts to further cement relations between the two countries, particularly in the economic field.



The King's visit to he People's Republic of China is the third since his assumption of constitutional powers in 1999, where the King's visits come within the framework of developing political and economic relations with China.
