King Abdullah II Holds Talks with Turkish President

His Majesty King Abdullah II on Tuesday held talks with Turkish President Ahmad Nacdet Sezer on bilateral cooperation and situation in the region, particularly the Palestinian issue and the situation in Iraq.



The two leaders affirmed the importance of continued coordination and consultation on all issues concerning the two countries, particularly in investment and economic fields.



During the talks, which were attended by the delegation accompanying King Abdullah and a number of high ranking Turkish officials, the two leaders stressed on the importance of supporting the private sector in both countries to help establish joint investments ventures and increase trade volume.



The two sides discussed the possibility of signing free trade agreement. To that end, Deputy Prime Minister Muhammad Halaiqa will discuss with his Turkish counterpart on Thursday in Aqaba economic relations where they will set a date for the higher Jordanian-Turkish committee's meeting with the proposed free trade agreement on its agenda.



The King and Sezer urged the international community to take necessary steps to put an end to the deteriorating situation in the West Bank, by pushing the peace process forward on the bases of international Resolutions and the items included in Roadmap peace plan, stressing that negotiation and dialogue are the only solution to end the tense situation in the region and to find out a just solution to the Palestinian issue based on establishing a Palestinian state alongside the Israeli state.



Sezer commended His Majesty King Abdullah's role for supporting the peace process including Jordan's efforts to the roadmap peace plan which has gained a world wide support.



The two leaders affirmed that stability, security and territorial integrity of Iraq are part of the two countries' priorities.



The talks also touched upon the proposed reforms in the Middle East where the two leaders affirmed that reforms should be self-initiated from inside the region.
