His Majesty King Abdullah on Monday said Jordan would continue to offer every support to the Palestinians and use all means at its disposal to highlight their suffering and empower them in their quest for statehood.
The remarks were made in a letter written from King Abdullah to Paul Badji, chairman of the Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People, on the occasion of the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People.
In the letter, the King said it is time to stop the oppression of the Palestinian people and to guarantee them their right to self-determination and enjoy independence on their national soil. He also emphasised that Israel must work seriously towards achieving peace and engage in effective peace negotiations. These negotiations, he said, should be based on the two-state solution and the relevant terms of reference, especially the Arab Peace Initiative. He added that they should build on previous achievements and address all final status issues in accordance with a specific time frame in order to realise the two-state solution as soon as possible.
King Abdullah called on Israel to immediately halt its unilateral measures, especially the creation and expansion of settlements and all attempts to change the features and historical identity of the occupied city of Jerusalem and threaten its holy sites.
The King also said he appreciated efforts by the committee to rally international support for the rights of the Palestinians and peacemaking efforts.
