Jordan reiterates support for Libyan people

His Majesty King Abdullah reiterated Jordan’s support for the Libyan people in achieving their aspirations in the reconstruction of a new Libya.

King Abdullah voiced support for the National Transitional Council (NTC) in its efforts to rebuild Libya and maintain its sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity.

During a meeting with Libyan interim Prime Minister Mahmoud Jibril, the King discussed the latest developments in Libya and means to enhance relations between the two countries.

His Majesty stressed that the Kingdom will continue to provide humanitarian and medical assistance to the Libyan people to help them overcome the difficult conditions their country is currently facing and to move into a new phase of security and stability.

Jibril briefed the King on the latest developments in his country and NTC efforts to rebuild Libya in cooperation with the international community.

In remarks after the meeting, Jibril said he discussed with the King the dispatch of a Jordanian field hospital, which will be supplied with the necessary medical equipment for various specialisations. The King and Jibril also discussed the formation of a Jordanian-Libyan higher committee to enhance bilateral cooperation in various sectors.

During his visit to Jordan, Jibril also visited Libyan patients currently convalescing in Jordanian hospitals. Hundreds of injured Libyans are currently receiving treatment in Jordan.
