Jordan, Kuwait sign key agreements

His Majesty King Abdullah and Emir of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmed Al Jaber Al Sabah on Monday held talks that focused on bilateral ties and regional and international issues of mutual concern.

During the meeting at Basman Palace, the two leaders highlighted the depth of relations both countries have achieved in all fields and stressed their desire to enhance cooperative ties in the fields of economy, trade and investment.

They also stressed the importance of continuing coordination between the two countries to advance Arab solidarity and achieve a unified pan-Arab stand to address the challenges facing the Arab world.

The King and the Kuwaiti emir reviewed international efforts to achieve a just and comprehensive peace in the Middle East, beginning with resolving the Palestinian-Israeli conflict on the basis of a two-state solution that guarantees the establishment of an independent Palestinian state according to international terms of reference and the 2002 Arab Peace Initiative.

Discussions, attended by Royal Family members and senior officials and diplomats from both the two countries, also addressed other Arab and regional developments and ways to deal with these issues jointly.

King Abdullah decorated Sheikh Sabah with the Hussein Bin Ali Medal, while the Kuwaiti emir decorated the King with the Medal of Mubarak Al Kabir.

In the presence of the two leaders, officials from the two sides signed an executive programme agreement for cultural cooperation for 2010-2012, two memoranda of understanding; one in the field of roads, bridges, construction and tenders and another on the use of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes.

King Abdullah hosted lunch and dinner banquets for Sheikh Sabah and the accompanying delegation, attended by several Royal Family members and senior officials.

A Royal Court official said that the Jordanian-Kuwaiti summit represents an important step towards advancing bilateral cooperation and that Jordan is keen to continue coordination with Kuwait.
