His Majesty King Abdullah on Sunday discussed the situation in Gaza and ways to end the Israeli aggression on the strip during a phone call with Saudi King Abdullah.
Meanwhile, Jordan will today send relief aid to Gaza to ease the humanitarian catastrophe worsened by the unprecedented attacks.
The Gaza issue was also the main topic during a meeting earlier in the day between His Majesty and top Christian clergymen.
For the second day, the Jordanian political and popular scene witnessed protests against the attacks, with rallies staged in various cities and refugee camps, while organisations issued statements in support of Palestinians in the face of aggression.
Also yesterday, the Foreign Ministry summoned the charge d'affaires at the Israeli embassy in Amman and conveyed its condemnation of the unjustified aggression against the Palestinian people in Gaza.
The King and the Saudi monarch warned against the repercussions of the Israeli offensive and agreed on continued coordination to end the assaults and alleviate the suffering of the Palestinians.
At the meeting with heads and representatives from the Christian community in Jordan on the occasion of Christmas and the new year, King Abdullah said that the peace values inherent in religious occasions should prompt the world to act immediately to end the aggression on Gaza, lift the siege and end the suffering of Palestinians so that they could exercise their right to live in security and dignity.
The King reiterated that Israel's aggression on Gaza should stop immediately, stressing that violence will not bring security to Israel and peace to the region.
He stressed that Jordan will continue coordination with other Arab states and influential capitals to pressure Israel to halt its assaults, end the blockade imposed on the Gaza Strip and resume peace negotiations that should culminate as soon as possible in the establishment of an independent Palestinian state.
King Abdullah added that Jordan has mobilised all its capabilities to assist the Palestinians with necessary aid and medical support to treat those injured by the Israeli attacks.
Congratulating the Christian community on the occasion and commending its key role in the Kingdom's achievements, His Majesty underlined the significance of protecting the Christian Arab identity in the Arab world, particularly in Jerusalem.
Aid convoy
Upon the King's directives, 16 trucks laden with aid and medical supplies, including blood units donated by citizens, will be sent to the Gaza Strip today.
The Jordan Hashemite Charity Organisation Secretary General Mohammad Aitan said that the relief body is ready to receive any donations from Jordanians, indicating that the organisation will send more aid convoys to Gaza in the coming few days.
The Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs announced yesterday that the ministry will start receiving cash and in-kind donations on Monday for the families of martyrs and the injured.
The campaign will last until Friday evening in all the ministry's directorates across the Kingdom.
