His Majesty King Abdullah on Tuesday issued directives to include the Kingdom's refugee camp students in UNRWA schools in the government school nutrition programme.

Prime Minister Nader Dahabi announced the Royal makruma during His Majesty's visit to the Hittin refugee camp in east Amman. The initiative will cover some 75,000 UNRWA students at a total cost of JD3 million annually.

King Abdullah said at a meeting with local community leaders and officials: "We are on the threshold of the holy month of Ramadan and I instructed the government to take proper measures to make sure there is an abundance of commodities at fair prices to the public."

During the visit, the King inaugurated several projects which he ordered be carried out during his previous visit to the camp, formerly known as Schneller Camp, on October 23, 2007.

The projects, which were originally requested by the camp residents, are designed to improve the living conditions in this underprivileged area.

The King also instructed the government to build a new headquarters for the Camp Orphans' Society at his expense in order to enable the society to carry out its humanitarian duties and better provide services to the local community.

King Abdullah met with several representatives and community leaders from the camp who briefed him on the main challenges the camp faces.

He assured the citizens that his utmost concern is to enhance the living conditions of the people and ease the economic burden on their shoulders, adding that he will work with the government to achieve this goal.
