Emir of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmed Al Jaber Al Sabah is due to arrive in Amman today for talks with His Majesty King Abdullah on bilateral ties and current regional developments.

During the two-day official visit, which comes upon an invitation from King Abdullah, the two leaders will examine means to boost economic cooperation in various fields and discuss Arab and regional issues of mutual concern. The visit to Jordan is part of Sheikh Sabah's regional tour, which also includes Syria, Egypt and Lebanon.

Kuwaiti Ambassador in Amman Sheikh Feisal Al Hmoud Al Sabah said that the visit will focus on important issues of common concern, particularly the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.

Meanwhile, Jordanian Ambassador to Kuwait Jumaa Abbadi highlighted the visit's importance, saying that it will boost ties between Jordan and the Gulf state.

“The visit highlights the deep-rooted and solid ties between the two countries and is designed to further boost ties in all fields,” Abbadi said.

According to a previous statement from the Kuwaiti envoy, several agreements are scheduled to be signed on the sidelines of the emir's visit, which is the first by a Kuwaiti head of state in 20 years.

Kuwaiti investments in the Kingdom amount to $8 billion, according to official figures. They are concentrated in the fields of telecommunications, services and tourism. Trade between the two countries reached $160 million last year.

Despite the global financial crisis, Kuwaiti investments in Jordan continued to rank first among Arab and foreign countries, indicating that Kuwaiti investors top the list of non-Jordanian investors in the stock exchange and second in the real estate market.
