His Majesty King Abdullah on Tuesday met with Muslim members of the UK Parliament who are currently on a visit to the Kingdom and underlined the important role Muslim leaders in European countries play in communicating the true message of Islam.

King Abdullah voiced appreciation for the level of cooperation between Jordan and the UK, particularly in the political and parliamentary fields.

He said Jordan will continue to support efforts aimed at promoting dialogue between the East and West and building bridges of understanding between followers of different cultures and religions, as outlined in the Amman Message, which calls for interfaith dialogue and tolerance.

The King condemned the recent attack that resulted in the death of a British soldier in London, stressing that these acts represent neither Islam nor Muslims.

His Majesty briefed the British MPs on the reform process Jordan is embarking on to entrench democracy and expand public participation in decision making.

Regarding regional developments, the King underscored the centrality of the Palestinian peace process and the need to come up with a just and comprehensive solution, noting that this conflict remains the main factor for regional instability.

His Majesty noted that the two-state solution is the sole way to bring about peace between the Palestinians and Israelis.

Discussions also covered the Syrian crisis. The King briefed the British lawmakers on the repercussions of the crisis on the Kingdom due to the influx of Syrian refugees.

The lawmakers commended His Majesty’s efforts to serve Muslim causes and restore security and stability in the region.
