His Majesty King Abdullah announced on Monday several key projects to be implemented in east Amman over the coming two years.

The King told community leaders here that changes envisioned would be implemented in line with a comprehensive development plan to be launched in the coming months.

“We will provide all the necessary support to carry out these projects,” King Abdullah said at the meeting with notables, officials and residents of the district, home to some 500,000 residents. King Abdullah said he has been personally following up over the past six months on the planning of the projects.

His Majesty said the plans are designed to develop east Amman in a way that renders it “more beautiful and a model for the rest of the areas in the Kingdom”.

Also on Monday, the King received the final copy of Amman Master Plan, which covers the capital's urban development up to 2025.

His Majesty also laid the foundation stone for the multimillion-dinar King Abdullah Park, which is expected to serve one million people of Muqablain and the neighbouring areas.

At the meeting in Qweismeh, the King said infrastructure, the health situation and schools will be of top priority as far as projects designed for east Amman are concerned.

Briefed on the economic challenges facing the district's inhabitants, King Abdullah gave instructions for creating a Military Consumer Corporation outlet in the area to reduce the economic challenges facing the residents.

The King also ordered the allocation of plots of land to build two schools for boys and girls, and carry out maintenance works for the remaining 80 schools in the district, which includes several east Amman neighbourhoods.

His Majesty also said youth clubs and women societies in the area will receive further support.

Also on Monday, the King visited the Ajnadin Basic School for Girls and ordered the creation of a new school to replace the old, overcrowded school. His Majesty also checked on the Khirbet Al Souq Healthcare Centre, which will be replaced by a new comprehensive facility to meet changing demographics of the area.

The two projects should be completed before the end of the year, the King said.

King Abdullah added he would follow up on all appeals made by the residents.
