His Majesty King Abdullah on Sunday warned that continued Palestinian internal fighting would threaten efforts seeking an independent Palestinian state.

During a meeting with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in Amman, the King voiced concern over recent developments in the Palestinian territories, stressing the need for unity among the Palestinian ranks.

King Abdullah told Abbas that a failure in achieving progress in the peace process will lead to further violence and instability in the Middle East, citing dialogue as the only way out.

He renewed Jordan's continued efforts to rally international support for the Palestinian National Authority, including financial assistance to help the authority enhance the living conditions of the Palestinian people.

Abbas said after the meeting that he briefed the King on developments regarding the “national dialogue” among the Palestinian rivals, as well as negotiations with Israel.
