Daaja tribe leaders on Monday voiced their support for reform efforts led by His Majesty King Abdullah, reiterating their allegiance to the Hashemites. They said the cooperation of all Jordanians is needed at this critical stage to stand up to the challenges and difficulties facing the Kingdom.
The tribal leaders made their remarks during a meeting with King Abdullah on Monday.
His Majesty checked on their needs and discussed means to proceed with the comprehensive reform process.
At the meeting, notables and representatives of the tribe stressed the need to preserve the country’s stability and security.
The tribe’s presence extends from east of Amman to the edges of Zarqa Governorate.
The notables voiced allegiance to the Hashemites, highlighting King Abdullah’s efforts to create a better future for Jordanians and enhance their living conditions. “Jordanians from all origins and streams support the King’s efforts to realise reform in Jordan. We, members of the Daaja tribe, strongly support the King’s path of reform that started a decade ago,” MP Salem Hadban said at the meeting, which gathered more than 3,000 representatives of the tribe.
Voicing allegiance to His Majesty, MP Mohammad Barayseh referred to the recent constitutional amendments, stressing that work to endorse reform-related laws is under way at the Lower House. Barayseh, who underlined the need to preserve the country’s achievements, said some of the demonstrations held in Jordan have witnessed violations aimed at harming the country.
MP Marzouq Daaja echoed Barayseh’s remarks. “The path to reform is through dialogue, not through hollow slogans and shouts. Reform is achieved through concrete actions, not through wishful thinking, and it needs the participation of all,” said the MP during the meeting.
Ali Ayed, a former minister and ambassador, told the gathering that the unity of all Jordanians and the “wise leadership of His Majesty” enable Jordan to overcome the consequences of the so-called Arab Spring and to press ahead with the reform process. Ayed, who said reform in Jordan is an ongoing process, referred to His Majesty’s support to the Palestinian issue. He also highlighted the role of the Hashemites in preserving the holy sites in occupied Jerusalem and supporting the Palestinians in attaining their legitimate right to establish an independent Palestinian state.
The tribe’s notables called for speeding up the reform process at the political and economic levels to attract investments and enhance the living conditions of Jordanians.
In a speech on behalf of the youths in the tribe, Saleh Daaja underlined the need to preserve national unity, stressing the importance of respecting the opinion of others. “For all Jordanians, the King’s sovereignty is the security valve which prevents the overlap between authorities,” he said, voicing support for the ongoing reform process in Jordan. He also reviewed the tribe’s demands, including the implementation of income-generating projects, healthcare centres, youth and sports clubs, and jobs for the youths through the implementation of development projects.
At the end of the meeting, representatives of the tribe presented the King with a gift.
