Their Majesties King Abdullah and Queen Rania and His Royal Highness Crown Prince Hussein on Saturday accompanied Pope Francis in his tour to the Baptism Site, at Bethany beyond the Jordan.

At the Latin Church at the Baptism Site, the Pope met children with disabilities and Syrian and Iraqi refugees in the presence of His Royal Highness Prince Ghazi, King’s chief adviser for religious and cultural affairs and personal envoy, and chairman of the Baptism Site Board of Trustees.

Jordanians, Syrians and Iraqis joined the Pontiff in prayers for peace to prevail in the region during his visit to the biblical site.

Pope Francis prayed in silence for few minutes and headed to the Church of the Baptism of Jesus Christ, where a celebration was held to mark his visit to the site.

Around 400 vulnerable people from Jordan, Iraq and Syria attended the event.

During a speech delivered by the Pope, he noted that he wanted to share with attendees the love of Jesus Christ, who loved patients, children and vulnerable people.

He called for the end of war in Syria and the end of people being displaced.

He also thanked Jordan for receiving refugees from different countries including Syria, Palestine and Iraq, calling for other countries not to leave Jordan alone in receiving refugees.
