Board members of the Anti-Corruption Commission on Monday were sworn in before His Majesty King Abdullah, following the issuance of a Royal Decree approving the Anti-Corruption Commission Law last year.

Board Chairman Abed Shakhanbeh and the board members Awni Yarvas, Mohammad Odeinat, Ali Dmour, Mohammad Adayleh and Ibrahim Emoush were sworn in during a ceremony at the Royal Court.

Under the Anti-Corruption Commission Law, endorsed in December 2006, the commission is charged with investigating corruption cases in all public and civil society institutions.

In June 2005, King Abdullah directed the government to draft a law establishing an independent commission, tasked with combating corruption and stamping out “wasta.”

Also on Monday, several Ministry of Interior governors were sworn in before the King, in the presence of Minister of Interior Eid Fayez. They were Ayad Abdullah Dheiat, Fawaz Najeeb Irsheidat, Hashem Ishaq Al Adwan, Ali Faraj Al Sharaa, Mokhled Khalaf Al Shobaki and Rabihah Abdul Fattah Dabbas.
