His Majesty King Abdullah on Monday stressed that the Amman Master Plan, prepared by the Greater Amman Municipality (GAM), should provide citizens with quality services that reflect positively on their lives and the environment.

During a visit to GAM headquarters, King Abdullah called for improved services to be provided to eastern Amman and the areas that were recently included within the municipality's limits.

During a meeting with Amman Mayor Omar Maani and GAM council members, the King highlighted the importance of coordination with the other service-providing institutions to offer the best services to citizens.

His Majesty also reiterated that the plan should take the capital's modernization into account, and at the same time preserve its aesthetic qualities, history and heritage to meet the aspirations of the country's residents and visitors.

King Abdullah, who commended the efforts of GAM employees during the visit, was briefed on progress achieved so far on the plan, some parts of which have already been prepared.

As part of the first phase of the Amman Master Plan, the locations for constructing tower blocks were identified on Sunday: They are Abdali, Abdoun, Jubeiha and the airport road.

In a letter on May 3 last year, King Abdullah entrusted GAM with forming a task force to prepare a plan for the development of the capital to serve as a template to be replicated in other cities.

The Master Plan will provide clear direction for the sustainable development of the municipality over the next 20 years, in accordance with new planning legislation.
