King meets Israel PM, reaffirms need to maintain calm

His Majesty King Abdullah on Tuesday met with Israeli caretaker Prime Minister Yair Lapid in New York and reaffirmed the need to maintain calm in the upcoming period.
At the meeting, held on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly, King Abdullah called for respecting the historical and legal status quo in Jerusalem and its Islamic and Christian holy sites.
His Majesty highlighted the need to create a political horizon for achieving just and comprehensive peace, on the basis of the two-state solution, to enhance regional security and stability.
The King reiterated the importance of granting the Palestinians their just and legitimate rights, and including them in regional economic development.
The meeting covered bilateral issues related to transport, trade, water, and energy.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi, and Director of the Office of His Majesty Jafar Hassan attended the meeting.
