His Majesty King Abdullah emphasised that events taking place worldwide cannot stand as barriers to continue peace efforts and work to create conducive conditions to bring Palestinians and Israelis back to the negotiation table.

In a letter to Chairman of the Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People, Fode Seck, on the occasion of the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People, King Abdullah stressed the importance of halting Israeli settlement activities and violations against Islamic and Christian sanctuaries in Jerusalem.

The King said that based on the Hashemite custodianship over Muslim and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem, “we will continue our religious and historic duty in safeguarding holy sites and Al Haram Al Sharif, preserving its Arab identity, supporting the steadfastness of the Palestinian people and addressing Israeli violations, particularly those targeting Al Aqsa compound”.

His Majesty also reiterated Jordan’s support to peace efforts and the rights of Palestinians to establish their independent state.

The Kingdom, His Majesty added, will continue to urge the international community to assume legal and ethical responsibilities to stop Israeli violations against the Palestinians.

The King pointed out that the continued Israeli violations which undermine efforts to revive peace process and achieve comprehensive peace, will be in the interest of terrorist gangs that exploit the suffering of the Palestinian people to recruit new members and promote themselves and their ideas.
