King, US secretary of state discuss ties, Mideast issues

His Majesty King Abdullah, on Monday, held a meeting with US Secretary of State, John Kerry, and discussed a number of Middle East issues and efforts to fight terrorism and extremism.

The talks dealt with the ongoing crisis in Syria. In this context, King Abdullah emphasised that the international community is required to step up its efforts to find a comprehensive solution to the war in Syria and end the suffering of the Syrian people.

They also discussed means to revive Israel-Palestinian peace negotiations in accordance with the two-state solution and relevant international legitimacy resolutions.

On Jordanian-US ties, the King said Jordan appreciates the support the US extends to the Kingdom to help it press ahead with its development drive and ease off pressures arising from regional upheaval.

Kerry stressed Washington’s support to Jordan which he said plays a pivotal role in key regional issues. He commended efforts spearheaded by His Majesty to address regional and global challenges.

He said his country remains committed to working with all stakeholders to support peacemaking efforts in the Middle East.
