King meets Canadian ministers

His Majesty King Abdullah discussed, on Sunday, with a Canadian ministerial committee, ways of providing international support to Jordan to enable it to shoulder the burden of hosting Syrian refugees.

During the meeting with the delegation, which comprised Defense Minister Harjit Sajjan, Minister of Immigration, refugees and Nationalities John, Minister of Citizenship, Immigration and Refugees, John McCallum and Health Minister Jane Philpott, King Abdullah spoke about the burden being shouldered by Jordan as a result of hosting 1.4 million Syrian refugees and providing them with services.

The King voiced appreciation for the support provided by Canada to Jordan, to enable it to continue its humanitarian role towards the refugees.

At the meeting, which was attended by His Royal Highness Prince Faisal bin Al Hussein, His Majesty also reviewed with the delegation the latest developments at the regional and international levels, mainly efforts to fight terrorism and extremism as well as the need to deal with their threat in a participatory and holistic approach.

Talks also dealt with means to forge closer ties with between the two countries and build on the outcome of the King’s visit to Canada earlier this year.

Members of the delegation praised His Majesty’s efforts to strengthen Jordanian-Canadian ties as well as the King's role in bringing about peace and stability in the region.

They also hailed Jordan’s efforts to host the Syrian refugees despite economic challenges facing it.

The meeting was also attended by the Royal Hashemite Court chief, the King’s advisor for military affairs and the chairman of the Joint chiefs of staff, the director of the King's Office, the interior Minister and the Canadian ambassador in Amman.
