His Majesty King Abdullah on Sunday met a delegation from the UK Royal College of Defence Studies, representing 13 countries, and briefed them on Jordan’s positions on regional and international issues.

At the meeting, held at Al Husseinieh Palace, King Abdullah acquainted the delegates with the Kingdom’s support for the efforts exerted to combat terrorist and extremist organisations, in addition to Jordan’s endeavours to achieve regional peace.

In this regard, His Majesty underscored the significance of concerted regional and international efforts, coupled with a sound cooperative strategy, to fight the threat of terrorism and extremism, “which excludes none”.

The King also noted that Islamic teachings and values call for moderation and condemn all extremist actions of these groups.

His Majesty also highlighted the centrality of the Palestinian issue as “the core of the regional conflicts”, adding that the absence of a fair and comprehensive solution to the Mideast conflict constitutes a major factor of regional instability.

The discussion also covered regional challenges, especially the Syrian crisis and the latest developments in Iraq, Libya and Yemen. The King emphasised the importance of reaching comprehensive solutions to these conflicts.

His Majesty also underlined the growing challenges the Jordanian economy is facing due to the regional crises, especially since the Kingdom hosts around 1.4 million Syrian refugees, resulting in further burdens on different sectors.

Such a situation requires the international community to intensify its assistance to Jordan to help it continue the provision of humanitarian aid and services to refugees, the King added.

The delegates voiced their appreciation for Jordanian efforts to achieve peace and stability in the region, in addition to its endeavours in dealing with different challenges the region is going through.

His Royal Highness Prince Feisal bin Al Hussein, Royal Court Chief Fayez Tarawneh, King’s Office Director Jafar Hassan and British Ambassador to Jordan Edward Oakden also attended the meeting.
