King meets US lawmakers concerned with defence

His Majesty King Abdullah on Tuesday received a delegation from the US House of Representatives Committee on Armed Services.

At a meeting held at Al Husseiniya Palace, the two sides reviewed prospects of cooperation and Jordanian-US ties, and ways to strengthen them in various fields.

King Abdullah expressed appreciation of the US’ continued support for Jordan and the Jordan Armed Forces-Arab Army.

Discussions addressed the latest developments in the Middle East region, focusing on regional and international efforts exerted to deal with the danger of terrorist groups and radical ideologies, in a manner that safeguards the stability and security of the region and its people.

The committee members expressed their appreciation of Jordan’s role, led by His Majesty, in combating terrorism and extremism, stressing their continued support for the Kingdom in this regard to boost the country’s ability to address the various challenges facing it.

The committee, commonly known as the House Armed Services Committee, is responsible for funding and oversight of the Department of Defence and the US’ armed forces, as well as substantial portions of the Department of Energy.

Royal Court Chief Fayez Tarawneh, His Majesty’s Office Director Jafar Hassan and US Ambassador to Jordan Alice G. Wells attended the meeting.
